In some traditional herding cultures there are sheep dogs who wear these heavily spiked metal collars, to prevent wolves or other big predators from being able to fatally wound them around the throat or head. This painting is about women, and how in a male diminated world, we have to protect ourselves. But in doing so we are inflicting self-wounding, the denying of the feminine, the destruction of sensitivity.
